Charles De Goal
After witnessing a blisteringly energetic set at this years Offset Festival, we were so impressed as to invite Parisian cold wave pioneers, Charles De Goal, back over the channel for an exclusive UK live performance in January.
These guys have been mentioned in the same breath as Wire and Gang of Four – their sound could be loosely described as minimal, jagged, and atmospheric – yet they are insanely danceable.
Charles De Goal have been around in various forms since 1980. Although now comprising of 4 band members, Charles De Goal has always been the project of one man – Patrick Blain. After 3 albums in the 80’s, Patrick left the project, until reforming in early 2006 for a one off concert. With an amazing response from this show, the band were persuaded to continue…
“Considering they are a group of men in their 50s wearing glasses who look like school teachers, they are awesome live” Nocturnal Mag
Supporting are London’s answer to Animal Collective, Beaty Heart. They make amazing pop music with echoing vocals and endless primitive drum beats, with no less than 3 (interchangeable) drummers. What we think makes them special, and in a way superior to AC, is that they can make you dance AND dream at the same time. With their newly added live visual set, they are becoming ever more entrancing…
Best catch ’em at Cargo before they are whisked away to foreign places around the UK and Europe.
Big props from Loud & Quiet, Basement Fever, Super ace, Pinglewood & us, obviously!
