Wed 3rd July / Petulant Penguins Presents Dingus Khan

Dingus Khan arenandrsquo;t a band that play by the rules. They spit at the traditional band set up, bass, guitar, drums, vocals and instead boast three drummers (yes you heard correctly), three bassists, an electric ukulele player and a vocalist who also strums the guitar. And if you think this set up is controversial, the musical style of Dingus Khan follows logically its arrogant but exciting band formation.Making full use of all eight members, Dingus Khan produce a sound bursting full of energy, a rock and roll that fronts raw distortion with screaming vocals, a hedonistic treat that will satisfy anyone who feels a little tension release is in order. In fact, their live shows usually descend into chaos and upon listening to the few songs theyandrsquo;ve released, one yet to witness the madness they bring on should be warned to prepare for mayhem. In fact, the only way they could ever have a static audience at one of their shows is if the venue were pumping some form of sedative through the air-conditioning.Support Acts: Hey You Guys!
Thu 4th July / URBAN DEVELOPMENT PRESENT UD LIVE

<where></where>

<tickets></tickets>

UD LIVE
andnbsp;
FEATURING KREPT andamp; KONAN, TANIKA, andnbsp;
TIGGER DA AUTHOR, SID BATHAM, MANGO AND LASHES
andamp; SPECIAL SURPRISE GUEST
andnbsp;
HOSTED BY MCKNASTY andamp; THE TEAM
andnbsp;
ON JULY 4TH 2013 AT CARGO, EAST LONDON
andnbsp;
After three terrific events so far, Urban Development returns with the next installment of UD Live on April 18 with another storming line up. With so many live nights flooding the London scene, UD Live offers something totally unique and seamlessly fresh. Favourited by Artists, Managers and Aandamp;Randrsquo;s the night brings people together from across the world of music.
Combining some of the UKandrsquo;s most exciting emerging artists with more established names, performers have the opportunity to rework their own material with East Londonandrsquo;s finest house band fronted by DJ and drummer supremo MckNasty. After working with some of the biggest names in the industry, MckNasty has toured with Tinie Tempah, Lady GaGa and Lily Allen and has just recently starred on Britainandrsquo;s Got Talent.
Next month's show is headlined by one of of UK rapandrsquo;s brightest talents Krept and Konan, emerging UK songstress Tanika and rising stars Tigger Da Author, Sid Batham and Mango andamp; Lashes.
Krept andamp; Konan are a rap duo rapidly rising to the front line of the UK underground scene. Youandrsquo;ll have to flummox around the history books to find a suitable example of that eyebrow-lifting andlsquo;rapping duoandrsquo;. Itandrsquo;s this niche that has seen the versatile pair leap to the forefront of the underground tabernacle with their unrelenting approach to metaphors, similes and general wordplay puzzles. Having worked with practically everyone the urban scene has to offer, Krept and Konan will surely be putting on a great performance at UD Live.
Cool, edgy and soulfulandrdquo; - three simple words rising star Tanika describes herself as. This 23-year old south London luminary is ready to embark on her new journey and adorn the music industry skyline, creating a new lane to compliment her distinctive sound, style and vocals.
With his first EP 'Evilution' already making waves his enduring narratives, honeyed harmonies and masterful rhymes set Tigger Da Author apart from his counterparts. Taken under the wing of the UK's rap master Sway, he now sits under the homegrown Dcypha Productions label.andnbsp;With rich warm tones like Quaye or Blacc and crisp, clear flow that sits somewhere between Ghostpoet and Wretch 32, his range is too bold to be anchored to one genre.andnbsp;Conscious music with integrity is finally here and Tigger is at the forefront.
Sid Batham is a 23 year old vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from London. When he sings he blows people away with a combination of beauty and power. When he plays itandrsquo;s impossible not to be struck by his musical proficiency, underlined with a quiet but knowing confidence. When he walks into a room it is clear he possesses that distinct but un-definable quality which turns heads.
They're new, funky fresh, and buzzing with energy.andnbsp;Mango andamp; Lashesandnbsp;are an east London duo who have already been likened to a female version of theandnbsp;Rizzle Kicks. They've been together for a little over a year and they've been perfecting their sound at UDHQ ever since.andnbsp;
andnbsp;
To catch all of these artists live on stage itandrsquo;s just andpound;5 if you buy your ticket online or andpound;10 on the door

Soundcrash presents The Heliocentrics live at Cargo introducing material from their excellent 13 Degrees of Reality LP out April 29 on Now-Again Records. After a hugely successful run of shows with Ethio-Jazz legend Mulatu Astatke The Helios return to the live stage to deliver their unique brand of astral funk and psychedelic hip-hop. Prepare to have your mind blown to smithereens. The Heliocentrics have been playing together for over a decade and their collective drive is to find an individual voice. The Helios search for it in an alternate galaxy where the orbits of funk, jazz, psychedelic, electronic, avant-garde and andldquo;ethnicandrdquo; music all revolve around andldquo;The One.andrdquo; Back at Now-Again with 13 Degrees of Reality, the Heliocentrics have returned to develop this epic vision of psychedelic funk, while exploring the possibilities created by their myriad influences andndash; Latin, African, and more. No surprise, then, that the Heliocentrics have earned lifetime fans in the likes of questing spirits like Madlib (with whom Catto has collaborated on numerous Yesterdays New Quintet projects), DJ Shadow (both as a touring ensemble and in the studio), Quantic and Ethiopian jazz giant Mulatu Astatke, with whom the Heliocentrics recorded and released Inspiration Information 3, the fourth classic Mulatu album andndash; released nearly forty years after his other three. Praised as someone who andldquo;embodies all that is good about a new generation of producersandrdquo; (Dazed andamp; Confused), Paul White has won over fans of left-leaning sounds and interesting hip-hop, including Diplo, Mary Anne Hobbs, Benji B and Gilles Peterson. Following the release of his 2010 album Paul White and The Purple Brain in conjunction with Now-Again Records, Paul White's hip-hop career is now flourishing: he's produced the bulk of rising US rap star Danny Brown's forthcoming album, and has an EP with Homeboy Sandman forthcoming on Stones Throw. His live trio brings together his love for hip-hop, jazz, psychedelia, new wave and more. Plus if all this wasnandrsquo;t enought New Analog wil be producing an exclusive limited gig poster to be sold An unmissable show from a uniquely talented band of musicians. andnbsp; Epitaph Records is proud to announce the signing of one of today's most provocative and passionate bands:andnbsp;RETOX. Combining the jagged edges of stripped down/back-to-basics rock n' roll with bombastic attitude and art-rock intelligentsia, using the prism of the past to look toward the potential brilliance of the future, RETOX's YPLL arrives via Epitaph Records in May 2013. A brand new video, "Congratulations You Are Good Enough," is already live on Vice's Music Channel, showcasing the bandandrsquo;s kinetic, challenging energy. andnbsp; Check out the new video here: http://noisey.vice.com/blog/retox---congratulations-you-are-good-enough-official-video RETOX deliver a mission statement in 12 blistering tracks, the vast majority of them clocking in at two minutes or less. It's the type of rallying battle cry that inspires lingering and dormant primal urges and too-long-suppressed societal dissatisfaction in those who encounter its punk rock lineage and postmodern crash-and-ban. andnbsp; Tracks like "You Lost Me At 'It Wasn't My Fault,'" "Greasy Palms" and "Nose to Tail" are all filled with immediacy, urgency and restless energy, no matter which tempos RETOX happen to be pummeling in the songs. "Congratulations You Are Good Enough" features guest guitar work guitarist Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, whose fretwork jumps aboard the careening song. The track builds to a punk rock crescendo with crystal clear production that amplifies every crackling nuance of the band's delivery.andnbsp; andnbsp; Subcultural iconoclast and artistic visionary Justin Pearson is known in critical circles, amongst contemporaries across a wide variety of genres and to fans of incisively incendiary artistic expression around the world as one of the guiding lights of the groundbreaking outfit THE LOCUST. He resurfaced on record alongside gifted guitarist Michael Crain, dynamic bassist Thor Dickey and powerhouse drummer Brian Evans. andnbsp; YPLL takes the ugly powder-keg promises of the band's impressive debut and ratchets up the proceedings exponentially, quickly given all who fall under its spell ample evidence as to why friends and contemporaries who have played with Public Image Ltd., Nine Inch Nails, Killing Joke, Man Is The Bastard, Swing Kids,andnbsp; and The VSS count themselves among the bands supporters and comrades.andnbsp;Otis "O" Barthoulameu (Fluf, Olivelawn) coined a phrase for what RETOX have summoned forth: "New Confrontation."andnbsp; andnbsp; Pearson himself offered this explanation for Retox's new album's creative combustibility:andnbsp;"YPLL is something that four very odd humans placed together as a reflection of the art due to the worlds we live in."andnbsp;Incredibly well thought-out, highly educated, impossibly practical, Retox's YPLL uses the power of the riff and the passion of the scream to conjure diatribes about the human condition. As Pearson notes, producer Chris Rakestraw, who has worked with heavy metal luminaries and postmodern hardcore heroes alike, "Brought out aspects that the band has previously not honed in on, resulting in music for the future yet to come." andnbsp; andnbsp; "While writing YPLL, we were particularly focused on riffs and simpler song structures," explains Crain. "Not so much on the extras, such as effects and layers of guitar, but more on an actual song's flow. The guitar lines, kick drum, and snare are definitely driving the ideas home while the bass guitar is the glue holding it all together. And the vocals are telling each song's story. We really just wanted to keep it simple and make everything fun to listen to. Chris definitely honed in on this."andnbsp; andnbsp;

WDS - (WE DON'T STOP) PRESENTS "FERRO" For Amsterdammers, Ferro has been around for years. He first emerged at the age of 17 with learned sets that were as influenced by classical music as they were jazz and science fiction. Now, years later, his profile is beginning to rise around Europe having played alongside influential DJs like Zip, Rhadoo and Onur Ozer at clubs like Studio 80 and Paradiso in the Netherlands, as well as at places like Salon Zur Wilden Renate and Club der Visionandauml;re in Berlin.

His sets wave together intricate rhythms, plenty of mood and never fail to work a dancefloor. Unsurprisingly given that he is an Audio Engineer graduate, so too does Ferro produce his own music. So far coming on labels like Moscow Records, Tzinah and Karton, he is fast fomenting his own signature sound. It is a sound that comes caked in a vintage dust, sounding as though his beats have been maturing in a draw before being unleashed on the world.

They are organic, warm and inviting, and it is Ferroandrsquo;s lasting goal to make all of his music using genuine hardware and fully analogue tools. So too does he hope to collaborate with similarly minded musicians in future, at the same time as forging ahead with his own unique sonic identity.

The DIY ethic in music has extended far beyond the back-to-basics sensibilities of the punk scene.
andnbsp;
It's prevalent in Africa where economic necessity dictates that anyone wishing to make music must take such an approach, fashioning instruments from whatever's close to hand. This is the modus operandi of Jagwa Music, a collective of eight youngsters from the streets of Dar-Es-Salaam who play percussion forged from plastic piping and arm themselves with battered, long-discarded Casio keyboards wired up to ancient megaphones.
andnbsp;
Fronted by a pair of spectacular dancers and a singer/MC whose lyrics tell of survival in the at-times turbulent Tanzanian capital, theirs is a gloriously ragged but addictive sound, as heard on their debut record which revels in the fantastic title of Bongo Hotheads. And it would be an impetuous hothead who would choose not to come within earshot of this joyful noise.
