KALEIDOSCOPE CARAVAN CLUB: EATYOUROWNEARS PRESENTS…
Detachments are getting a lot of attention lately, and rightly so. Marrying nostalgia with progress, they employ enticing boyish vocals, sometimes reminiscent in inflection to The Clash’s Joe Strummer’s slurry charm, and an engaging sound that effortlessly travels between 80’s electro-pop, disco-punk and anthemic techno. Their latest single, The Flowers That Fell was produced by non other than Trevor Jackson, the man behind Playgroup and the Output label who released music by Four-Tet and LCD soundsystem. They might just be the next big thing!
A trio of masked London lads not to be afraid of: Is Tropical are the lo-fi wonders looking to make a massive impact in 2010. Is Tropical tackles the problem of genre by refusing to conform to just one; they’re like a fight between Jamie-T and Girls, or The Strokes vs Sublime- you decide. Their playful demos demonstrate a sound that contracts and jerks itself around the dancefloor, whilst hinting at more humble indie beginnings. With their wonky-pop melodies, inexorable hooks and DIY visuals, Is Tropical give you a lot to get excited about.
Co-promoter of Kill Em’ All, StopMakingMe is a DJ with no fear. Famed for mixing a multitude of genres into one savvy set, this is a man who knows his tunes. As he flawlessly and unapologetically fuses electro with disco or indie rock with pop, StopMakingMe makes it sound like this is the way they were supposed to be heard. As a producer, SMM has remixed the likes of Filthy Dukes, Patrick Wolf and We Have Band – amongst others. With a residency at Fabric now under his belt, this is one 24 year old to watch out for.
