At Cargo we pride ourselves in putting on line-ups you'd happily pay for and then not charging you a penny. It's back-to-basics partying and we like it like that. For the first Free! Friday in July we bring to you a small contingent from the Hype supergroup Fully Fitted plus musical soul-mate Martelo on the decks. For nada.
It's hard to pinpoint what Fully Fitted actually is. Is it a band? Is it a label? Is it an artist collective? Is it a blog? Is it an earnest car dealership? Well, it's a bit of all those; minus the last one perhaps. The Fully Fitted crew is comprised of Spank Rock, XXXChange, Amanda Blank, Delvin & Darko and The Pase Rock; a group of like-minded producers, rappers and djs hell-bent on making you, the people, wave your arms and stamp your feet in darkened rooms to heavy beats and sick sick rhymes. Not a bad raison d'etre if you ask us.
For Free! Fridays, Fully Fitted send forth a vanguard led by the downright filthy Amanda Blank and the weird and wonderful musical taste of Delvin & Darko. Amanda Mallory (a.k.a. Amanda Blank) is an American rapper and singer and member of the performance art band Sweatheart based in Philadelphia. She is also a collaborator with the rap group Spank Rock, most notably on the track "Bump" off of the album YoYoYoYoYo. Furthermore, she appeared on Bmore Gutter Music, which was produced by Aaron LaCrate and Low Budget of Hollertronix. (Thanks, Wikipedia!) Amanda Blank's lyrics and delivery are unashamedly sexual and provocative, which coupled with the bass heavy beats she rhymes over make for a very exciting live show indeed. Miss at your peril. released in 2006.
Delvin & Darko are Ronnie D & Chris Capri, a duo of djs from Baltimore USA and fully fledged members of Fully Fitted, and also acting as official djs for Amanda Blank and Spank Rock in their solo shows. When the Spankrock djs compiled and mixed his FabricLive compilation, D&D took the same tracks he used and switched them all around for their FabricDead Mix CD - now a very expensive rarity - creating something completely different in the process. It is this playful, almost postmodern (ugh) approach to djing that sets these two apart from the rest. Expect the unexpected.
Man about town Martelo will land at Cargo having just toured with Toddla-T and Oneman. With a myriad productions and remixes under his belt for the likes of Santogold, Riva Starr, Mumdance or Hervé to name just a few, Martelo has a proven record as a Bassline specialist of the highest order, and his sets flow seamlessly from Dancehall to B-More to Fidget via Hip Hop and Dubstep and anything else in between. Dope ish!
